Resolving civil disputes in Georgia

Not every legal disagreement needs to begin with a lawsuit.
Depending on the circumstances, a written demand, direct negotiation, or other dispute-resolution approach may help.
When a lawsuit is necessary, Georgia's magistrate courts, often called small claims courts, generally hear civil claims of up to $15,000, rising to $25,000 for cases filed on or after January 1, 2027. Magistrate court cases are heard by a judge without a jury, and many people file there without an attorney. Larger claims and other types of cases follow different procedures in state or superior court.
The appropriate county, deadlines, available remedies, and filing requirements depend on your particular dispute.
DocDraft helps you begin by organizing your facts and preparing relevant documents.
